Sponsorship roundup

Toronto-based CIBC has signed-on as the lead sponsor of the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards for a 15th year. The awards recognize the achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in various fields. The awards will take place on March 22. "Combined with their continued funding of our education program through bursaries and scholarships, CIBC is making a meaningful difference in the Aboriginal community," said Roberta Jamieson, president and CEO of the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation.

Maclean's magazine has become the national print sponsor of a new series of books from Penguin Group Canada called "Extraordinary Canadians." The series consists of 18 biographies that will be published over three years, accompanied by a six-part television series on Rogers Omni Television and the Biography Channel. As part of its sponsorship, Maclean's will run an excerpt of each book, beginning this week. It will also promote the series at events in Toronto, Halifax, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver. "This is a new take on Canadian history" said Ken Whyte, editor-in-chief of the magazine. "Maclean's has been in the business of reporting on Canadian culture and national affairs for over 100 years and this endeavour brings a fresh perspective. It's a good fit for us."
