LARGE TV SITS ON TABLE

Sony of Canada introduced its first large-screen tabletop TV to the Canadian market this week. The TV features a 41-inch screen, and has better picture and sound than its other large-screen TVs. An optional scratch-resistant, high-contrast protective screen improves contrast and increases the black level so colors look more vivid. Advertising for the TV will begin in the fall, and will be created by BBDO Canada of Toronto. Sony of America launched the TV in the U.S. this week as well.

This week Sony unveiled a 25-inch flat television set that can be hung on the wall. A New York Times report says the company hopes to start selling this model in the fall next year. Another large Japanese corporation, Fujitsu, is already selling 21-inch sets and expects to start making 42-inch ones next year, says the Times report.

Sanyo Electric Company has announced a large-screen 3-D set, to be available in Japan next month, that requires viewers to wear special glasses.
