VANCOUVER ISLAND RAIL STUDY

An economic study to assess the possibility of expanded rail service on Vancouver Island will be underway this summer, and available in the fall. It will look at ways to increase tourist travel from Victoria to Courtenay, including better marketing and development of excursion tours. Ridership on the trains was up 7% to 59,000 last year, but the E&N Railway Steering Committee believes ridership would be higher if the service was marketed and advertised better.
