UNITED BOWS OUT
By Adnews Staff
United Business Communications of Toronto is shutting its doors today after losing its major clients. Last month Sony of Canada's professional group and its computer and peripheral products division moved from United over to AES Company of Toronto. The accounts went with Gerry Kane when he left his job as president of United to go over to AES as an account representative. United lost the $3-million Consumers Gas account after a review was called last year. Also, the Prime Restaurant Group recently left United. A three-agency competition for the account was won by Stringer, Veroni, Ketchum which gained an advantage by hiring former United business manager Orest Semeniuk. Prime has four restaurant chains: Casey's, East Side Mario's, Pat and Mario's and Lime Rickey's. Another client, furniture maker Herman Miller Canada, had direct marketing done by a United division, Atlantic Communications. Herman Miller marketing program manager Chris Imler said yesterday Atlantic would continue to work for his company. A number of other names are on a public list of UBC clients: Scarborough Town Centre, Newfoundland Lung Association, Sportsdomes International, Institute for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Crystaplex and Canada Mortgage & Housing Corp.
