BRENDON TAKING HELM OF ICA

Ad veteran Rupert Brendon will take over as president of the Institute of Canadian Advertising as of Jan. 1. Brendon stepped down from his job as president of D'Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles of Toronto last October and gave up the post of chairman on December 31. Since then he has been working as a consultant. He will replace John Sinclair who will take on the role of executive vice-chairman. Sinclair has been sitting in the president's chair since 1990. Brendon was the founding force behind the National Advertising Benevolent Society, an organization formed to help people connected with the ad business who are down on their luck. He has also been involved with the Canadian Congress of Advertising and the awards competition called the CASSIES which only gives prizes to advertising that actually works. When leaving DMB&B Brendon told Adnews he wanted to do some association work or perhaps write about advertising.
