ROGERS MAKES TRY FOR VANCOUVER STATION

Rogers Broadcasting may be buying Vancouver multilingual cable specialty channel Talentvision for $4.1 million. Rogers is going to ask the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission to transfer ownership of Talentvision's licence and convert it to an over-the-air UHF licence, which would bring the service a much broader potential audience. The move could lead to a showdown between Rogers and CHUM Ltd. CHUM has applied for a channel in Vancouver modelled after Toronto's CITY-TV. It would also carry some multilingual programming. Rogers' Vancouver station would be patterned after its Toronto multilingual station CFMT.
