MAMMOTH-CAPACITY CD CHANGERS INTRODUCED BY SONY
By Adnews Staff
Sony of Canada Limited has introduced a line of compact disc changers that are capable of storing and playing up to 200 CDs. All four models are only slightly larger than Sony's current 100-CD models and feature a flat-top design to fit with other stereo components. The capacity can double to 400 when hooked up to a second changer, while playback and titling options let the listener choose what tracks to hear, when, and in what order. Eight separate groups of music can be designated by type or genre, such as rock or jazz, or by the listener's name. All four models will be available by the end of this month. A point-of-purchase ad depicting 200 CDs and an arrow connecting them to one of the changers is currently in stores, and might be used in print ads, Sony general manager, advertising and corporate communications John McCarter told Adnews yesterday. He added that such plans have not been confirmed, however. The p-o-p material, which was launched last month, was created by BBDO Canada of Toronto. Cohn & Wolfe of Toronto, handles public relations duties.
