Nintendo promotes Wii with Quebec competition

Nintendo of Canada has begun a campaign in Quebec in support of its Wii video game system. The initiative consists of a series of 75-second vignettes in which celebrities will compete against various families in their homes at a number of Wii games. The five-week series, called "Les Stars de la Wii: L’Utime Face à Face," will air on TVA during the morning show Salut Bonjour and again during the evening news broadcast. The episodes are being promoted with 15-second commercials on TVA. Participating celebrities include singer Annie Villeneuve, comedian Real Beland, hockey player Stephane Quintal, Olympic runner Bruny Surin and fitness expert Josee Lavigueur. The participating families were selected in a contest conducted by TVA in September. The campaign was developed by Starcom Media. "We're thrilled to partner with TVA on behalf of Nintendo on this first-of-kind promotion for the Quebec market and the opportunity to showcase Quebec's biggest stars and most spirited families enjoying the fun of Wii and making it an integral part of the family entertainment experience," said Alex Panousis, senior vice-president at Starcom.
