Nortel hires Weber Shandwick

Communications technology company Nortel has appointed Weber Shandwick its global public relations agency of record. Nortel chose the agency after a review of an unknown number of contenders. The intent of the move is to consolidate the company’s international public relations with a single company. “The consolidation of our global public relations activities with Weber Shandwick delivers a more focused effort within a simplified and more efficient structure for Nortel worldwide,” said Lauren Flaherty, chief marketing officer at Nortel. “As a sister company to our recently selected global ad agency, McCann Erickson, our move to Weber Shandwick further strengthens synergies between advertising, marketing and communications.” According to the company, Nortel’s future public relations activities will focus on strengthening the brand as well as increasing awareness and media attention. Weber Shandwick and McCann Worldgroup are owned by Interpublic.
