AMEX OFFERS MORE WITH BUSINESS CARD

American Express is trying to drum up more business among the entrepreneurial class in Canada by putting more bells and whistles on its Corporate Card for Small Business. In the fall Amex will add bonuses such as discounts on loan rates, courier service, business equipment and office supplies. Earlier this month it began offering corporate rates at Delta Hotels & Resorts and preferred daily rates at Hertz Car Rental. Advertising for the jazzed-up card will begin in the fall, created by Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto. The Canadian small business card was launched in 1983 with features such as detailed monthly statements, travel accident insurance, a disability plan for small business and emergency cheque cashing. In the U.S. Amex launched the card in 1981 and added several services over the past couple of years.
