MARKET FOR MASS MERCHANDISERS GROWING

Canadians are spending more at grocery store chains and less at convenience stores. But it is mass merchandisers and warehouse clubs that have seen sales grow the most in the past six months, according to ACNielsen of Markham, Ont. Mass merchandisers have experienced 13% growth, while warehouse clubs have enjoyed a 19% growth rate. Grocery stores had a growth rate of 6%. Shopping at drug stores increased 1% and dropped 7% at convenience stores.
