Star Media Group buys The Canadian Immigrant
By Adnews Staff
Star Media Group, a division of Toronto Star Newspapers, has purchased The Canadian Immigrant magazine. The Vancouver-based monthly publication is aimed at readers who are still in the first years of their lives in Canada. The magazine, founded in 2004, is distributed primarily in the Lower Mainland area of the city. Star Media plans to launch a Toronto edition in the first half of 2007. “This acquisition is a perfect fit with our strategy to enter the multi-ethnic publication sector,” said Carol Peddie, vice-president of business ventures at Star Media Group. “We currently publish Singtao and recently launched Sway, geared towards Toronto's African and Caribbean Canadian communities. With The Canadian Immigrant in our portfolio, it enables us to extend our dialogue with the quarter million immigrants that come into this country each year.” According to Star Media, the acquisition will not affect the day-to-day operations of the magazine. The publication’s former president and CEO, Naeem Noorani, will remain in the position of publisher. No financial details are available.
