Toronto Star, La Presse form tablet agreement

The Toronto Star and La Presse have formed an agreement in principle to develop a tablet edition of the Toronto Star. The edition will be based on the La Presse+ tablet edition, which launched in 2013. When it launches in the fall of 2015, it will offer news and information content in an interactive format that will incorporate print, online, mobile and video elements. The two newspapers will also use the shared technology to offer joint marketing options to national advertisers.

"This is another important step forward for our industry," said John Cruickshank, publisher of the Toronto Star and president of Star Media Group. "The new tablet edition will be a key element of our multi-platform evolution. We are encouraged and impressed by the reception of La Presse+, which has attracted a highly engaged younger audience."

The Toronto Star is a division of Star Media Group, which is a division of Toronto Star Newspapers, which is a subsidiary of Torstar.
