SEGA GOES ON-LINE WITH SATURN

Japan-based Sega Enterprises is hooking its Sega Saturn 32-bit video game system to the Internet. The company will add hardware, in the form of a 28.8 bps modem, and software, in the form of a Web browser, to the Saturn game player in North America in the fall. Called Sega Saturn Net Link, the new system will allow users to play networked games, send and receive email and have on-line chats. Sega will also offer a keyboard and mouse, as well as services such customized "newspapers" tailored to readers' interests. Sega currently has five games under development for Net Link. Accolade, Interplay, GT Interactive, Virgin Interactive Entertainment and Westwood Studios are making at least 10 compatible games that will be available by Christmas. Sega says it's too early to say what the advertising plans for Net Link are. Currently it is holding a review of its account. The incumbent is Goodby, Silverstein & Partners of San Francisco. Sega uses creative from its U. S. agency in Canada. Media Experts of Montreal places the ads.
