CHUM Television of Toronto has relaunched its Pulse24.com website as CityNews.ca. The online news service has been redesigned with a new look, more functionality and more personalization options. The site also offers on-demand broadband video. “We have designed a site that invites our viewers to tell us their stories. Our intent is to form a broader, deeply connected community of local storytellers and citizen journalists,” said Stephen Hurlbut, vice-president of news programming for Citytv and general manager of CP24. The new site also makes use of video advertising in addition to banners. “In creating a true broadband video experience online, we are not only serving our viewers but creating compelling opportunities for marketers,” said Dale Fallon, director of CHUM Interactive. “The branding power of TV ads can now be delivered to an audience consuming on-demand news at their desktops at any time of day.”
Scott Thornley + Company of Toronto has constructed a new website for The Hour, a CBC daily news show. An unknown number of additional agencies were also invited to pitch for the account. The site, located at <http://www.cbc.ca/thehour>, offers approximately 500 video clips from the program, along with news feeds pulls from elsewhere on the CBC.ca website.
