COSSETTE AND EDELMAN TO DO PET PROJECTS

U.S. pet supply chain Petsmart has chosen the Toronto offices of Cossette Communication-Marketing and Edelman Public Relations Worldwide to handle Canadian advertising and PR. Petsmart, which is based in Phoenix, Arizona, will open five of its superstores in the Toronto area late in the summer. The company plans to establish 75 to 80 stores across Canada over the next five years. Cossette was chosen from a short list of three because "they are multi-faceted," spokesperson Cozette Wasserman told Adnews last week. Edelman was chosen from another short list of three. "They were everything we were looking for," commented Wasserman. It also helped that Edelman's Chicago office does Petsmart's PR in the U.S. Along with pet supplies, the chain offers grooming, veterinary services and obedience training. It also has adoption centres. Early last year Petsmart bought U.S. superstore competitor Petstuff and closed the latter's four Toronto area outlets. Petsmart operates 250 stores in the U.S.
