PetSmart readies National Adoption Weekend

PetSmart Charities of Canada will conduct an initiative called the “National Adoption Weekend” from Feb. 28 to March 1. During the promotion, representatives from approximately 200 animal welfare organizations nationally will be present at participating PetSmart stores with various adoptable dogs, cats and other small animals. For each dog adopted during the effort, PetSmart will provide a free Top Paw pet coat or sweater. The company will also encourage consumers at their stores who cannot adopt a pet themselves to take pictures of the available animals and post them on social media.

“Springtime brings an influx of thousands of litters, and many shelters become overwhelmed with homeless pets in need of loving homes,” said Amanda Landis-Hanna, senior manager of veterinary outreach at PetSmart Charities. “With warmer temperatures and longer days on the horizon, now is a great time to bring home a new pet. Sharing a fun activity like a daily walk outside can establish a healthy routine for both pet parent and pet and creates a positive bonding experience while a pet becomes acclimated to their new environment.”
