PetSmart Charities readies PicMe social media campaign

PetSmart Charities of Canada of Burlington, ON is preparing a social media campaign called "PicMe" intended to encourage consumers to adopt a pet. The charity is conducting the promotion in collaboration with various local animal shelters. The campaign invites consumers to post pictures of pets available for adoption to their social media pages. According to the organization, it hopes to find homes for 1,600 shelter pets in Canada during National Adoption Weekend from Sept. 14 to 16. During the weekend, the charity will feature one pet per hour on its own Twitter and Instagram pages.

"We know people are passionate about helping to end pet homelessness," said David Haworth, president of PetSmart Charities of Canada. "But historically, unless you were ready to adopt a pet into your home, there was no other way for millions of pet-lovers to take part in National Adoption Weekend. Now, by sharing a photo, video or Boomerang of an adorable, adoptable pet on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, and using the hashtag '#PicMe,' everyone has the ability to help by inspiring their community of followers to consider adopting a pet."
