BBDO SCORES WITH SOCCER TEAM

BBDO's network of agencies made the lineup of the Toronto Shooting Stars Soccer Club & Academy last week. Shooting Stars is the city's first professional indoor soccer team. Toronto-based BBDO Canada will handle media buying. BBDO Retail will create advertising. The Gaylord Group will be in charge of event marketing, promotions and sponsorships. Spectrum Public Relations will handle PR. Shooting Stars did not hold a formal review, but it did speak to three other agencies. It chose BBDO because "they appeared to be the most hyped about it. They were keen on making soccer work in the city," media director Randy Sageman told Adnews this week. The team will begin hosting soccer clinics next month and will start other events in December. The Shooting Stars' first season begins next October. Two thousand free tickets will be given to inner city kids and minor league club players for each home game. The team is owned by Toronto Indoor Professional Soccer Ltd. It has an alliance with the Ontario Soccer Association and is a member of the National Professional Soccer League.
