PAGING COMPANY NEEDS AGENCY
By Adnews Staff
Liazon Communication Solutions of Markham, Ont. will be looking for an agency to advertise its two-way paging system, sales and marketing vice-president Greg Bandler told Adnews this week. The company hasn't decided when it will begin its search, but it is hoping to have its service up and running in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal by the third quarter of 1996. The company has won a licence from both U.S. and Canadian federal authorities to offer narrow-band communication services that allow users to respond instantly to a page. Liazon is targeting both businesses and consumers. Businesses can use the technology for more than just person-to-person communication. For example, a vending machine will be able to tell the company that owns it, it is running out of inventory. Liazon says it will spend up to $40 million to build a national network in Canada. The company has also joined forces with American Paging Inc. of Minneapolis so that both companies can provide the same services on each side of the Canada-U.S. border. Liazon is owned by Markham-based Upper Canada Communications Group. American Paging is a unit of Telephone and Data Systems Inc.
