PETSMART IS INVADING CANADA
By Adnews Staff
U.S. pet supply chain Petsmart of Phoenix, Arizona is entering the Canadian market in mid-1996, and is currently talking to Canadian agencies to handle media buying, spokesperson Cozette Wasserman told Adnews last week. It hasn't been decided yet if a Canadian agency will be hired to do creative, or if it will come out of its U.S. agency, the Evens Group of California. A decision on how advertising will work in Canada will be made by early next year. Earlier this year Petsmart bought U.S. superstore competitor Petstuff, and closed the chain's four Toronto-area superstores. Petsmart operates 250 stores in the U.S., and hopes to have up to 60 in Canada. It will open up to 15 stores in mid-1996. Along with pet supplies, the chain offers grooming and veterinary services, obedience training and has adoption centres.
