APPLE POWERS UP ITS POWERBOOK LINE
By Adnews Staff
Apple Computer has revamped its popular line of notebook computers. The company announced yesterday that it is bringing out two new series of PowerBook machines, the 5000 and 2000 lines, based on the PowerPC 603e microprocessor. This fast chip gives them the power to let users do complex graphics, page layout and sophisticated presentations - things that users "would never have attempted on a notebook computer before," says Apple Canada product manager Sue Belanger in a release. The 5000 series is expected to be in stores in early September and the 2000 in mid-October. Also scheduled for a mid-October launch are beefed up models in the 100 series which make up the new 190 line. These give Apple's lowest priced notebooks power previously found in the high-end 500 line, says the company. Suggested retail prices run from $2,599 for the lowest-priced 190 to $10,249 for the top 5300 model. BBDO Canada is currently working on a direct marketing and media advertising campaign for the new machines, which will be integrated with sales promotion and heavy public relations. PR is handled by Toronto-based NATIONAL Public Relations.
