TOSHIBA ADDS TO NOTEBOOK LINES

Markham, Ont.-based Toshiba of Canada now has multimedia notebook machines in each of its four computer lines. The company introduced five new notebook machines this week which all have multimedia capabilities. The Tecra 510CDT is a high-end model for travelling executives who need powerful computers. It features a 10X CD-ROM drive, a 2.02 gigabyte hard disk drive and a 12.1 inch color monitor with 800 X 600 resolution. The new Satellite Pro 430 Series features two computers. They are geared to travelling executives, field professionals, small business and personal users who need fast access to large amounts of data on CD-ROM. The machines feature full-motion video, 10X CD-ROM drive and zoomed video for optional video playback. The Satellite 200CDS is Toshiba's first entry-level notebook with multimedia features as standard equipment. It also comes with user-swappable 6X CD-ROM drive, sound Blaster Pro compatible sound system and 100 megahertz Intel Pentium processor. The Portége 660CDT ultra portable computer weighs just over five pounds and uses a 150 megahertz Intel Pentium processor, and a 10X CD-ROM drive. In addition, Toshiba has also expanded its notebook warranty program. The computer maker has teamed up with Unisys Global Customer Services to offer the program in virtually every country. Until now, the warranty provided coverage in 29 countries. Customers can receive warranty service 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week. Other features of the program include one telephone number for service and support, free pickup from and delivery to point of drop-off and three to five-day system return. National print advertising supports the launch of the new computers and the warranty program. It was created by Promanad Communications of Toronto.
