INMARSAT INTRODUCES GLOBAL SATELLITE PHONE

Inmarsat of London, England introduced its global cellular phone to the worldwide market earlier this month. The phone weighs 2 kilograms including battery and offers many features found in other cellular systems, such as smart cards. In the future the company will be adding a short message service, fax service and voice-mail. In Canada, the phone is being promoted using TV ads on Air Canada flights and print ads in the Canadian edition of Time magazine. The ads were created by Publicis of London. Canadian PR is being done by Advance Planning & Comunications of Toronto. Inmarsat also markets other cellular phones including terminals with satellite tracking antennas for cars, trucks, coaches and trains, a large multiple-channel version for remote and rural communities which can handle many calls at the same time and a maritime version to install on anything from a small yacht to a large cruise liner.
