COMPAQ DEVELOPING HANDHELD COMPUTERS
By Adnews Staff
Houston-based Compaq Computer Corp. will introduce a handheld computer in North America by the end of the year. The mini-machine will be based on Microsoft Corp.'s Windows CE operating software. Windows CE is a shortened version of the Windows operating system, designed for electronic devices less powerful than computers. The device will allow users to transfer data to and from personal computers that run Windows software. Compaq will aim the product at businesses, mobile workers and people who work from home. A national print campaign, coinciding with the device's release, will support the launch in Canada. Ammirati Puris Lintas of Toronto will handle the advertising.
