Square hires Energi PR

San Francisco-based electronic commerce company Square has retained Energi PR as its Canadian public relations agency of record. This is the first time the company has hired a public relations firm outside the United States. Energi will work to raise awareness of the brand in Canada and to support its expansion into this market. Square specializes in credit card transaction processing for mobile devices. Its primary product is a system that allows payments to be made via an Apple or Android device using an add-on credit card reader.
"Last year, tens of thousands of Canadian small businesses were accepting credit card payments on their mobile devices and processed over $100 million in sales," said Khobi Brooklyn, director of product communications and marketing at Square. "Clearly Canada is an extremely important market for us. We were impressed by Energi PR's deep understanding of the Canadian payment industry and their experience in the French and English business, consumer and lifestyle markets. Similar to Square, Energi PR is agile, collaborative and results driven, overall the right strategic fit for our company."
