Advertising Standards Canada breaks new campaign

Advertising Standards Canada has begun a new public service campaign called "Truth in Advertising Matters." Developed by Cossette of Toronto, the multi-media ad campaign presents a variety of exaggerated or distorted situations, along with the tagline, "Dressing it up doesn't make it true." The campaign consists of print ads and a 30-second television commercial. In the commercial, a father catches his daughter sneaking out of their house at night. A song and dance team appears to attempt to convince the father that she was going to the library. The campaign will run nationally in French and English. It also includes online materials at the Adstandards.ca website. "We all know that maintaining consumer confidence in advertising is essential," said organization president and CEO Linda Nagel. "That's why Advertising Standards Canada exists. Truth in advertising is equally important to the advertising industry and the public. Cossette did a great job in finding a way to deliver this message with a dramatic flair.  Like all good advertising, it's designed to stand out and drive our message home."
