NEW IBM SOFTWARE BATTLES INTERNET VIRII

IBM yesterday announced the introduction of AntiVirus Version 2.5, the latest development in the company's AntiVirus software. The application will be able to scan Internet documents for virii before they infect a computer. It will provide protection for more than 8,000 strains of virii, including the Concept and other Word macro virii. Version 2.5 supports most popular Intel-based computer platforms, including Windows NT. Protection is provided with the new "check on access" technology, which scans a file for virii whenever it's accessed, including when files are uploaded or downloaded from the Internet or via E-mail, online services, bulletin board systems or other sources. There will not be a specific ad campaign for the products, Stephen Hewitt of Goodman Communications told Adnews yesterday, but it will be mentioned in selected IBM personal computer print ads. Ogilvy & Mather of Toronto handles the corporation's Canadian advertising.
