ONTARIO'S LARGEST-EVER FOOD DRIVE LAUNCHED
By Adnews Staff
Nearly all of Ontario's major food banks, 180 in total, kicked off a gigantic food drive Monday which will run until Aug. 10 and will help to replenish the province's rapidly-dwindling food stocks. The Daily Bread Food Bank of Toronto is co-ordinating the effort, which will link the individual banks with the 303 participating supermarkets of major food distributor Oshawa Foods. Advertising of the drive will be seen in flyers of the participating stores during the weeks ending Aug. 3 and Aug. 10 and will identify which items are needed most. They include powdered milk, peanut butter and canned fruit. A recent survey indicated that at current depletion rates, 110 of the food banks would run out of food some time in August. The ads were handled by in-house by Oshawa. Participating stores include IGA, Food City, Price Chopper, Knechtel, Dutch Boy and L & M Food Markets.
