MORE PEOPLE WATCHING OLYMPICS
By Adnews Staff
Pre-Olympic Game hype is one of the reasons more Canadians are watching the 1996 Olympics than they watched in 1992 ,when the games were held in Spain. The opening ceremonies for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta scooped gold in ACNielsen TV ratings last week. Almost 7.5 million English Canadian watched the ceremonies, with an average minute audience of almost 2.9 million. French Canadians added another 1.38 million average minute audience. Other reasons more people are watching the Olympics are the number of heavily promoted events, the overall nightly line-up of sport events broadcast and the competitive programming on other channels. The viewing data was compiled by ACNielsen's electronic People Meter methodology, which produces estimates within 36 hours.
