UltraVision Inc., a Calgary-based maker of contact lenses and contact-lens-care products, has expanded into the United States. "With the company's established reputation for unique contact lens products and increasing market share in Canada, UltraVision is uniquely poised to capture a sizable share of the U.S. market with its extensive specialty product line," says Dr. Vincent Zuccaro, president and CEO of the company. The new U.S. headquarters is in Campbell, California. UltraVision will focus its marketing efforts on a new line of molded contact lenses made of a proprietary material called Carbosilfocon which are more comfortable than traditional rigid lenses but provide better visual acuity than soft lenses. Kevin F. Bligh has been hired to take on the position of vice president of sales for the American operation. Previously he was director of optical development at Revo Inc. Advertising targeted at American eye-care professionals will begin next week, consisting of a public relations campaign in American trade journals to be followed by direct mail over the next three months. UltraVision currently handles its advertising in-house with the aid of contract creative.
