UNILEVER MAY APPEAL
By Adnews Staff
Unilever Canada is still deciding whether it will appeal a recent court decision enabling Procter & Gamble to continue TV advertising claiming the superiority its Oil of Olay bath bar, Unilever vice-president Bruce Mactaggart told Adnews last week. A judge of the Ontario Court's General Division not only refused to issue an injunction against the P&G ad campaign, but also said there was "reasonable basis for the superiority claim." P&G's advertising says the Oil of Olay brand is more moisturizing than the leading bar brand. Dove has been the leading bar in Canada since 1967 by both dollar and tonnage market share. The judge referred to evidence from three experts who said that the Oil of Olay bar has better moisture retention.
