ONTARIO GAINING POPULARITY
By Adnews Staff
Effective advertising is one reason why tourism is increasing in Ontario, says Economic Development, Trade and Tourism Minster William Saunderson. He singles out a print effort that highlights the exchange rate difference between the U.S. and Canada. A lot of the credit for the increase in Ontario's popularity with tourists goes to partnerships with travel associations, trade associations, businesses and other government organizations including the federal Canadian Tourism Commission. The number of U.S. visitors from January to September, 1995 increased 9.8%, according to Statistics Canada. Total tourism revenue from the U.S. for 1995 is expected to increase by 6%. The number of visitors from the U.K., Germany and France jumped to over 620,000 from just over 567,000 last year. Tourists from Japan, Korea and Taiwan increased to 323,000, from 297,000 the year before.
