IGA GETTING BIGGER
By Adnews Staff
The Independent Grocers Association is making its Quebec stores bigger and giving more space to the produce sections. Over the past month IGA has opened two 25,000 square-foot stores and plans to open up to six by the end of 1996. IGA is also planning to enlarge most of its older stores which average 18,000 square feet. Marketel of Montreal was hired recently to handle Quebec advertising for IGA. It won the business in a competition with two other Montreal agencies because it knew the food market well and had the experience, marketing vice-president Claude Gariépy told Adnews last week. Others on the short list were Publicité Martin and Saint Jacques Vallée Young & Rubicam. Media planning and the production of flyers remain in-house. Marketel will launch a campaign for IGA next year.
