EXPRESSVU CHOOSES AGENCY

Enthusiasm won the day for The Communique Group. The agency walked away with the Expressvu ad account last week after beating out three other candidates for the business. Communique was chosen because of the high level of energy its people brought to the business, Helen Latimer told Adnews yesterday. Latimer recently joined Expressvu as marketing director, moving from the post of marketing manager at Toronto-based cable service Trillium Communications. The other short-listed agencies were Vickers & Benson Advertising, Cossette Communication-Marketing and Twaits & Company Marketing & Communications. Earlier this year Expressvu hired Twaits & Co. and Communitech of Toronto to put together a corporate identity, and also to handle advertising for a fall launch that never took place because of technical delays. While Twaits and Communitech were doing their work, the company had a search going on for a full-time agency. Expressvu, which is based in Mississauga, Ont., now plans to launch its digital direct-to-home satellite TV service by Christmas. The company, which deliver its service via pizza-sized satellite dishes, is owned by Tee-Comm Electronics of Milton, Ont., BCE Inc. of Toronto and WIC Western International Communications of Vancouver. Customers will have to pay an initial fee of $1000, plus monthly payments. For this they will receive major Canadian networks and independent television stations, Canadian pay-TV and specialty services and a package of 22 Canadian pay-per-view channels, as well as major networks, specialty services and superstations from the U.S.
