Sandra Schmirler Foundation readies virtual telethon

The Sandra Schmirler Foundation of Victoria, BC will conduct a virtual version of its annual fundraising telethon on Feb. 21. The telethon will take place during the broadcast of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts curling tournament on TSN. The foundation will also stream content on its Facebook page between TSN broadcasts. Volunteers will answer donor telephone calls from their homes and in socially distanced spaces nationally. Contributions can also be made online at <http://www.sandraschmirler.org>. The funds raised will be used to purchase medical equipment for neonatal intensive care units at hospitals nationally.

“More than 20 years after her death, Sandra's legacy lives on in the babies saved by equipment purchased by the Sandra Schmirler Foundation,” said foundation advisor Chris Atchison. “It is great to know that at a time when so many things have been cancelled, the telethon will go on as scheduled. The work the Sandra Schmirler Foundation does saves lives. A successful telethon means hospitals across Canada will have equipment to help babies who are born premature and critically ill.”
