Canadian Tire introduces Pick-Up Towers

Canadian Tire of Toronto has begun a new electronic commerce initiative called "Self-Serve Pick-Up Towers." Sixteen towers have been installed at five Canadian Tire locations in Vancouver, Calgay, Saskatoon and Toronto. Consumers who make online purchases at the retailer's website can opt to collect their merchandise in person at one of these locations.

In addition, the company has installed a collection of self-serve lockers in Ottawa that serve a similar purpose. Consumers can also use an automated check-in terminal system in-store to request that a staff member bring a selected product to them.

"We're a test and learn culture and a big part of that is finding new ways to help our customers shop when they want and how they want," said Greg Hicks, president of Canadian Tire Retail. "We're very excited to be the first retailer in Canada to introduce the Self-Serve Pick-Up Towers to some of our busiest stores as one more example of how we're meeting our customers' evolving needs."
