Royal Bank, Petro-Canada to link loyalty programs

The Royal Bank of Canada and Petro-Canada have formed an agreement to link their respective loyalty programs. Beginning on Oct. 31, RBC customers who link their Petro-Points membership to a personal or business debit or credit card account will receive a three-cent discount on the purchase of each litre of fuel. They will also receive an additional 20% of the standard number of Petro-Points for each purchase. Members of the RBC Rewards credit card program will also receive 20% more points in that program. Consumers can link their accounts online at <http://www.rbc.com/petro-canada>. As part of the agreement, approximately 500 RBC-branded bank machines will be installed at Petro-Canada locations nationally over the next six months. Petro-Canada is a subsidiary of Suncor Energy.

"This announcement is about delivering value to Canadians through a seamless, simple and convenient experience, no matter what type of RBC card they choose to pay with," said Sean Amato-Gauci, executive vice-president of cards, payments and banking at RBC. "Together with Petro-Canada, we've created a unique program that provides Canadians with great savings on fuel purchases, bonus rewards points and access to the benefits of our market-leading credit and debit solutions. We're changing the loyalty landscape. Our innovative linking experience will provide significant savings and value to more than 12 million RBC and Petro-Canada customers, without requiring them to apply for a specific card."
