Health Canada, Canadian Cancer Society resume Break It Off tour

Health Canada and the Canadian Cancer Society have resumed their smoking cessation campaign "Break It Off." Aimed primarily at young adults, the campaign encourages consumers to give up smoking. This is the fourth iteration of the touring promotion, which consists of a series of events at college an university campuses. The tour began on Jan. 30 with an event at La Cité Collégiale in Ottawa, followed by a stop at the British Columbia Institute of Technology and Algonquin College in Ottawa.

The initiative also includes a website at <http://www.breakitoff.ca> that offers a collection of resources to assist visitors with the various stages of quitting smoking.

"Every year, thousands of Canadians die from preventable illnesses related to smoking, and thousands of young Canadians start smoking," said Minister of Health Jane Philpott. "This is unacceptable. Successful programs such as 'Break It Off' are such an important tool in our fight against smoking as they help deliver the message that quitting smoking is possible and that help is available."
