Shaw Media restructures

Shaw Media of Toronto has undertaken a restructuring initiative which, according to the company, is intended to broaden its focus beyond that of a traditional broadcaster. The changes are intended to strengthen the company's content development and revenue generation activities.

As part of the restructuring, the company is currently seeking a senior vice-president and chief revenue officer. This is a newly-created position that will be responsible for the consolidated broadcast, digital, distribution and branded content revenue activities of the company. The department will also focus on advertising and analytics, as well as future revenue streams.

Christine Shipton has been appointed senior vice-president and chief creative officer at Shaw Media. She will lead the company's brand marketing, digital and content initiatives. Dervla Kelly has been appointed vice-president of marketing and communications. She will be responsible for trade marketing, distribution marketing, social media activities, media planning and internal communications. Greg Treffry has been appointed vice-president of business development and media digital strategy. He will assess new technologies, business alternatives and partnerships.

"The evolution of our business from a broadcaster to media organization is a reflection that our focus is no longer centered solely on creating long-form content designed for a 24-hour schedule, but has expanded to encompass all types of content across platforms," said Barbara Williams, president of Shaw Media. "Long form, short form, branded content, instructional videos, behind the scenes content, web content, content for social media and so on, so that we engage as many people as possible in as many ways as possible with our brands and monetize those audiences in our rapidly changing industry."
