BELL TESTS NEW PAGERS
By Adnews Staff
Bell Mobility has developed a new technology that puts the voice back into paging. Pagers incorporating the new technology will be tested by 150 customers in the Ottawa-Hull region early next year. With voice paging, a voice message is sent directly from the caller to the pager without the intervention of an operator. The new technology, called InFLEXion, supports the sending of 30-second messages to a portable device capable of storing up to 4 minutes of messages. Bell says the new voice pagers offer better voice quality, efficiency and reliability than regular pagers. The trial period for the pagers will last several months. If the tests go well, the pagers should be available sometime in 1997. Cossette Communication-Marketing of Montreal handles advertising for Bell.
