FIRM SEEKS APPROVAL FOR ARTHRITIS TREATMENT
By Adnews Staff
Dimethaid Research Inc. of Markham, Ont. has submitted an application to the Health Protection Branch for approval of a lotion for the treatment of arthritic pain. Dimethaid is an independent Canadian pharmaceutical company. The company says the lotion, called Pennsaid, provides quick relief with few side effects. The lotion allows for local application of the drug rather than systematic. Dimethaid president and CEO Rebecca Keeler told Adnews the company was anticipating approval of the drug sometime between April and July of 1997. Ads for Pennsaid would then begin running in Canadian medical journals. Agensky and Co. of Toronto will be handling the advertising. Dimethaid will also be filing for approval for Pennsaid in the U.S. and the E.U. before the end of this year.
