SPECIALTY AND PREMIUM TV NETS JOIN FORCES

Canadian English- and French-language specialty and premium TV networks have teamed up to tell the industry and their audiences about their contributions to Canadian programming. The networks have set up an organization called the Specialty and Premium Television Association which will initially have representation at industry events and seminars to get the word out about the networks. SPTV will decide at a later date whether it will hire an agency to promote specialty and premium channels, association chair Pierre Morrissette told Adnews yesterday. SPTV will also collect and analyze research data and formulate responses and strategies to the research. The Discovery Channel president Trina McQueen has been appointed vice-chair of SPTV. Other board members are Vision TV president Fil Fraser, Family Channel president Len Cochrane, Gérald Janeteaur of Le Réseau des sport, Gilles Desjardins of RDI and TSN president Lisa de Wilde.
