RIBBON CAMPAIGN GOES WITH RANSCOMBE DESIGN
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Ranscombe & Co. won a poster competition this week sponsored by the White Ribbon Campaign. The poster headline says "These men want to put an end to violence against women." It is followed by space for over 100 signatures. To ensure that men sign, each signature line starts with the word Mr. In the centre of the poster is a White Ribbon logo on a red background and copy that asks men to show their support by wearing a white ribbon themselves. The White Ribbon campaign hopes the poster will be put up in offices and public places across the country. It may also be translated into other languages. The poster was created by art director Les Soos, copywriter Tony Miller and creative director Jim Ranscombe. Over 40 entries were submitted to the contest. The White Ribbon Campaign is an organization of men working to end men's violence against women. It was formed in 1991 after the murder of 14 women at a Montreal engineering school. The campaign encourages men to wear a white ribbon as a pledge not to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
