Tim Hortons introduces smartphone payment system

Tim Hortons of Oakville, ON has introduced a new mobile payment system making use of smartphones. Consumers at participating Tim Hortons locations in Canada and the US will be able to pay for purchases using near field communications and the company's TimmyMe mobile application. The charge will be deducted from a Tim Card stored value card that the consumer has registered with the application. The system currently works with a number of BlackBerry devices, with an Android version planned for a future release. The system was developed in association with payment processing company First Data.

"We're always looking to provide our Tim Hortons guests with the best overall customer experience, and mobile payment is one area that we feel can help streamline the average time spent at the order counter," said David Clanachan, chief operating officer at Tim Hortons. "These new innovations offer secure, quick and easy payment alternatives, allowing our guests more time enjoying their favourite food and beverages."
