Dairy Farmers of Canada readies cheese rolling festival

Dairy Farmers of Canada will resume its annual "Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival" promotion in August. The event will take place in Whistler, BC on Aug. 17. Participants will chase an 11-pound wheel of Pacific Pepper Verdelait cheese down a hill. The first down the hill will win the wheel of cheese and a Whistler season ski pass for two. The competition will take the form of seven men's and four women's races, plus a final, as well as children's races. Participants can also wear costumes to enter a contest for a $500 gift certificate from IGA Marketplace. The event will also include cheese seminars and sampling, as well as sales. "Dairy Farmers of Canada is thrilled to bring the Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival back to Whistler," said Sandra Da Silva, public relations program manager for the organization. "Cheese-loving Canadians and visitors from all over the world are invited again to partake in the many activities the festival has to offer. It's a great event for the entire family and a fantastic way to shine a spotlight on Canadian cheese from coast-to-coast."
