Dairy Farmers of Canada continues cheese rolling promotion

Dairy Farmers of Canada will conduct an annual promotional event called the "Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival" on July 23 in Whistler, BC. During the competition, participants will chase a large wheel of cheese as it rolls down a hill in an effort to make it to the bottom first. The winners will receive the 11-pound wheels of Cracked Pepper Verdelait cheese, produced by Natural Pastures, as well as Whistler season ski passes for two. Seven men's and four women's races will take place, with the winner of each competing in the finals. Six uphill children's races will also be held. The event will also feature various other family activities and product sampling. "Last year, over 10,000 people gathered at the base of Blackcomb Mountain to experience the Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival and many people from across the country and abroad have asked us to bring it back in 2011," said Solange Heiss, assistant director of marketing and nutrition communications at Dairy Farmers of Canada. "It's a great activity for the entire family and a fantastic way to showcase the amazing cheeses this country has to offer."
