Charitable bicycling organization Grand défi Pierre Lavoie has signed mining company Rio Tinto Alcan as its lead sponsor for the next three years. The company will support all upcoming Grand défi activities, including La Tournée le Lait and a contest for students in May. "We are proud to be involved with this unique community-building program and its goal to encourage healthy lifestyles for children and families, especially because Pierre Lavoie is a Rio Tinto Alcan employee," said Jacynthe Côté, chief executive of Rio Tinto Alcan. Supermarket chain Metro has also signed-on as a sponsor of the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie, particularly its "Eat Better" program. "It's only natural that we be involved in such a cause," said company president and CEO Eric La Flèche. "The theme is perfectly aligned with our values and our mission to offer Quebecers healthy food choices, particularly children aged six to 12."
