Regional magazine campaign begins in British Columbia

The Periodical Marketers of Canada, the British Columbia Magazine Publishers’ Association and the Department of Canadian Heritage will begin a campaign next month intended to promote newsstand sales of regional magazines in British Columbia. The six-month campaign, called “Best of B.C.,” will seek to enhance the promotional efforts of individual magazines with additional retail display, in-store promotion and public relations. “Our studies indicate there is a great potential to increase newsstand sales of Canadian regional titles,” said Ray Argyle, executive director of the Periodical Marketers of Canada. “This is a pilot program that will focus on promotion of individual B.C. titles distributed through the wholesale channel, rather than on generic promotion of Canadian titles as a group.” The organization will monitor newsstand sales to measure the results of the initiative. Wholesale agencies The News Group of Richmond and The Monahan Agency of Vernon will also participate in the program, as will retail consulting firm NCompass Retail Navigation.
