BLACK MOVES PHOTOS TO CD-ROM
By Adnews Staff
Black Photo Corp. is moving photographs from paper to personal computers. The retailer launched a service this week where it will store negatives, photos and slides on CD-ROM and computer discs. One of the programs used to store the photos is an electronic multimedia album from Toronto-based Delrina Corp., called Echo Lake. This software will be sold at Black's stores. It will be demonstrated at some outlets and featured in the retailer's advertising. Delrina will include a discount coupon for Black's photo-scanning service in each copy of Echo Lake. The program enables personal computer users to marry text with audio clips, video clips and photos. Advertising for Black's is done by Padulo Integrated. Black's is owned by Fuji Photo Film of Japan. Eastman Kodak of Rochester, New York launched a photo-CD system almost five years ago, but it has only been successful with commercial users such as graphic artists. However, Black's president Rod smith feels the time is ripe for his company's new service because so many people now own multimedia personal computers.
